The FIA International
Court of Appeal (ICA) held its inaugural Congress in
Monaco on December 9, 2005. It was the first time that
all of the Titular Members of the ICA have met to discuss
the rules of the court.
The 2008 Formula One Technical
Regulations will drastically reduce the cost of competing
and make it easier for cars to overtake, following agreement
on these objectives by the World Motor Sport Council.
The FIA GT3 European Championship
was officially launched in Monaco on December 2, with a
display of the cars in front of the prestigious Hotel de
Paris in Casino Square.
The CARS 21 High Level Group
has recommended the compulsory introduction of new vehicle
technologies to improve road safety in its 10-year roadmap
for the car industry.
The CARS 21 High Level Group,
which is part of the European Commission, is seeking to
implement measures which will reduce pollution and promote
the environment.
Professor Sid Watkins’s
services to motor sport safety have entrenched his place
as one of the most important figures in motor racing. As
president of the FIA Institute he continues to be the leading
proponent of safety in motor sport.
World
Bank & FIA Foundation launch
Road Safety fund
The World
Bank and the FIA Foundation have launched a multi–million
dollar fund to combat the 1.2 million deaths from road
traffic injuries suffered each year.
Oman continues to lead the
drive to promote road safety in the Middle East. As part
of its latest efforts in this area the Sultanate of Oman
joined up with the FIA Foundation to sponsor a two day
workshop.
