| The Summit will feature the launch of the FIA Institute Medical Faculty, which aims to consolidate the expertise of motor sport doctors and medical staff around the world. This will be complemented by the distribution of the FIA Institute Core Curriculum, the first publication devoted to best practice in motor sport medicine.
The event follows on from the inaugural FIA Institute Safety Summit, which took place at Paul Ricard, the 2006 FIA Institute Centre of Excellence. It was hailed as a huge success, with a number of high-level representatives from the world of sport participating in the event.
The two-day event, which focused on the theme of Risk Management in Sport, featured a keynote speech from Roland Blanchet, the Directeur de Cabinet for Jean-François Lamour, the French Minister for Sport as well as presentations from Tsutomu Tomita, Chairman and Team Principal of Panasonic Toyota Racing, Alex Wurz, F1 Driver, Williams F1 Team, and Dr Patrick Schamasch, Director of the Medical and Scientific Department at the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
FIA President Max Mosley said at the time: “The Summit certainly succeeded in its mission to provide an arena for debate and discussion on the major issues that affect sports teams, organisers and promoters today. It was an altogether informative and constructive event.”
Delegates expected to attend the Bahrain Summit include representatives of the Grand Prix Drivers Association (GPDA), senior representatives of racing and rally teams, manufacturers, promoters, circuit administrators and officials, medical practitioners and motor sport safety equipment manufacturers.
The event follows the appointment of the Bahrain Circuit as the FIA Institute’s Centre of Excellence for 2007.
